Each piece from She Said Marry Me is designed to be worn with meaning and cared for with intention. With proper care, your jewelry can keep its shine, structure, and beauty for years to come.

Because jewelry is often exposed to skin oils, moisture, cosmetics, chemicals, impact, and daily movement, gentle handling and proper storage are essential. The following care guide will help you protect your pieces and preserve their appearance over time.

1. The Last-On, First-Off Rule

Jewelry should be the last thing you put on when getting ready and the first thing you remove at the end of the day. This helps reduce contact with perfume, lotion, makeup, hairspray, sunscreen, and other products that may affect the surface, finish, or shine.

Please remove your jewelry before bathing, swimming, exercising, sleeping, cleaning, cooking, gardening, or doing any activity that may expose it to sweat, chemicals, water, pressure, or impact.

Delicate chains, clasps, prongs, and stone settings should not be pulled, bent, twisted, or pressed with force. Careful handling can help reduce the risk of breakage, loosening, or unnecessary wear.

2. Keep Away from Chemicals and Moisture

Chemical exposure may cause discoloration, tarnishing, plating wear, dullness, or damage to stones and settings. Please avoid direct contact with perfume, lotion, soap, shampoo, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, cosmetics, hairspray, household cleaners, chlorine, salt water, and other chemical substances.

Moisture can also speed up tarnishing or surface changes, especially on 925 sterling silver and plated finishes. If your jewelry becomes wet, gently dry it with a soft, clean cloth before storing it.

3. Cleaning After Wear

After wearing, gently wipe your jewelry with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. This helps remove fingerprints, skin oils, light moisture, and surface residue before they build up.

For occasional light cleaning, mix a small amount of mild soap with lukewarm water. Gently clean the piece with a soft cloth or very soft brush, then rinse carefully and dry completely before putting it away.

Avoid toothpaste, bleach, alcohol, ammonia, abrasive powders, rough cloths, polishing paste, and strong jewelry cleaners unless they are specifically suitable for the material and stones in your piece.

Ultrasonic cleaners and steam cleaners are not recommended for many delicate designs, especially pieces with stones, pavé settings, plated finishes, detailed settings, or fragile components. Gentle hand cleaning is usually the safest option.

4. Proper Storage

Store each piece separately in a soft pouch, jewelry box, or original packaging. Keeping pieces apart helps prevent scratches, tangling, rubbing, and accidental damage between metals, stones, and chains.

Jewelry should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, humidity, and sudden temperature changes. Bathrooms, windowsills, and other damp areas are not ideal for storage.

For necklaces and fine chains, close the clasp before storing to help reduce tangling. For rings and earrings with stones, place them carefully so the stones and settings do not rub against harder surfaces.

5. Special Care for 925 Sterling Silver

925 sterling silver may naturally oxidize or tarnish over time when exposed to air, moisture, sweat, cosmetics, or chemicals. This is a normal characteristic of sterling silver and does not mean the piece is defective.

To help slow tarnishing, keep sterling silver jewelry clean, dry, and stored separately when not in use. Anti-tarnish pouches, anti-tarnish strips, or soft jewelry cloths may help protect silver pieces during storage.

When polishing sterling silver, use a soft silver polishing cloth and apply gentle pressure. Avoid excessive rubbing, especially on pieces with plated finishes, delicate textures, engraved details, or stone settings.

6. Protecting Stones and Settings

Pieces with stones should be worn with extra care. Avoid knocking them against hard surfaces, dropping them, pulling on the setting, or wearing them during activities that may place pressure on the stones or prongs.

We recommend checking your jewelry regularly for loose stones, bent prongs, weakened clasps, stretched links, or visible changes in the setting. If you notice movement, looseness, or damage, stop wearing the piece until it has been inspected.

Continuing to wear jewelry with a loose stone or damaged setting may increase the risk of stone loss or further structural damage.

7. Caring for Chains, Clasps, and Fine Details

Chains, clasps, links, and fine decorative elements are more vulnerable to pulling and pressure. Open and close clasps carefully, and avoid pulling necklaces or bracelets over the head, hand, or wrist without releasing the clasp first.

Do not sleep in necklaces or delicate chain bracelets, as movement during sleep may cause tangling, bending, stretching, or breakage.

When traveling, place each piece in an individual pouch or compartment to prevent chains from knotting and stones from scratching other jewelry.

8. Normal Signs of Wear

Even with careful use, jewelry may naturally develop signs of wear over time. Light scratches, small surface marks, tarnishing, fading of high-contact areas, and slight changes in finish may occur with regular wear.

These changes are part of normal jewelry use and can often be reduced by gentle cleaning, proper storage, and avoiding chemicals, moisture, friction, and impact.

Proper care helps protect both the beauty and structure of your jewelry. Damage caused by misuse, impact, improper cleaning, chemical exposure, water exposure, accidental force, unauthorized repair, or normal wear may not be covered under our limited warranty.
